Privacy Policy
Last updated: April 29, 2026. This page explains how the Memex website and product approach privacy at a high level. Memex is designed to keep personal records under user control.
Core principle
Memex is built around a local-first model. Your records, cards, and knowledge are intended to live on your device rather than in a centralized Memex-owned cloud.
App data
- Memex stores app data locally on your device as Markdown files and a local SQLite database.
- You may choose to back up or sync data through services you control, such as iCloud Drive or a custom folder.
- Memex does not require a Memex account to use the core product experience.
LLM providers
Memex uses a bring-your-own-model approach. When you connect a provider such as OpenAI, Claude, Gemini, Kimi, Qwen, or Ollama, prompts are sent directly from your device to that provider. Your use of those providers is governed by their own terms and privacy policies.
Website analytics
The Memex website uses Google Analytics to understand site traffic. If you interact with external links such as the App Store, Google Play, GitHub, or Discord, those services may collect data under their own policies.
